Glossary

This glossary defines common terms used across the marketplace, relevant to both Users (Guests) and Sellers (Hosts).


A

Add Account – A step in the payout setup flow where Sellers input their bank routing and account numbers to receive funds.

B

Booking Status – Represents the lifecycle stage of a booking. Used in both Seller and Guest dashboards to filter and understand booking outcomes:

  • Pending – A booking request has been sent by the Guest but not yet accepted or declined by the Seller.
  • Booking Accepted – The Seller has approved the booking request. Payment is captured and the booking is confirmed.
  • Booking Declined – The Seller has rejected the booking request. No charge is made.
  • Booking Cancelled – The confirmed booking has been cancelled by either party. A refund may be issued based on the cancellation policy.
  • Booking Request Withdrawn – The Guest has withdrawn their request before the Seller responded.
  • Expired – The Seller did not respond within the platform’s decision window, and the request was automatically rejected.
  • Refunded – The booking has been cancelled and funds have been returned to the Guest.

Booking – A confirmed agreement between a Guest and a Seller for the use of a space at a specified date and time.

Booking Details Card – A sidebar component showing a summary of booking information including time, venue, activity, alcohol indicator, and payment breakdown.

Booking Request – A formal request initiated by a Guest to book a space. Includes event details and optional message to the Seller.

Booking Request Declined – See Booking Declined.

Booking Request Withdrawn – The Guest cancelled their request before the Seller responded. No payment was collected.

Bookings Page – A Seller Center page showing all confirmed and cancelled bookings tied to a listing.

Booking Summary Card – See Booking Details Card. Sometimes used interchangeably depending on platform labeling.

C

Cancellation Policy – Defines refund amounts depending on when a booking is cancelled. Examples: Flexible, Moderate, Strict.

Create Listing Flow – The step-by-step form for a Seller to onboard a new space to the marketplace.

D

Details Tab – A section within Seller Center where core listing information is entered and edited (address, setup, rules, pricing).

Download Receipt – A button that allows either party to download a receipt for a confirmed booking. Pulled via Stripe API.

Guest – A User who makes an inquiry or booking request for a listed space.

I

Inbox – A messaging center for Sellers to manage conversations and booking requests from Guests.

Inquiry – A message from a Guest expressing interest in a space but without a formal booking request.

L

Listing – A published space on the platform made available by a Seller for booking.

Listing Dropdown – A selector at the top of Seller Center to switch between multiple listings under the same account.

P

Payment Status – Indicates the outcome of a payment attempt tied to a booking:

  • Paid – The payment has been successfully processed and captured.
  • Failed – The payment attempt was unsuccessful, typically due to card errors or insufficient funds.
  • Refunded – The original payment has been returned to the Guest after a cancellation.
  • Hold Authorized – A temporary authorization hold has been placed on the Guest’s card, pending Seller confirmation.
  • Hold Released – The authorization hold has been removed (e.g. after booking decline or expiry).

Platform – The entity or operator that owns the marketplace and manages all system-level configurations.

Post-Event Review – A review submitted by a Guest after their booking has concluded. Reviews may be required or optional.

Payout – Funds disbursed to the Seller’s connected bank account after successful completion of a booking.

Pricing Packages – Configurable hourly or flat-rate options that define how a listing is priced.

R

Receipt – A PDF or screen-based summary of the booking payment, including line items and transaction history.

Refund Summary – Shown during the cancellation process to indicate refund amounts by item.

Reviews Page – A Seller-facing view that displays reviews left by Guests. Some marketplaces allow upvoting/downvoting.

Review Left Notification – System message indicating a Guest has submitted a review after an event.

S

Seller – A User who lists a space on the platform for others to book.

Seller Center – The portal through which Sellers manage their listings, bookings, reviews, and payouts.
